Rocky Mountain National Park – In the summer, this destination takes you along some of the nation's highest roads into the alpine tundra regions of the great Rocky Mountains. Each journey through the park is an experience you won't soon forget. In the winter, the lower elevations are where the elk are. They even come into the town of Estes Park.

In the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains is the gold mining town of Columbia, California. As a western Sierra fall and winter destination, this gold country state park is a great way to spend a day. Combine it with other great gold rush locations and you've got a complete destination.
